I think on some level it's a subset of queer fans who identify with her songs, but instead of taking it as the perfectly fine self-projection onto her work that it is, they instead argue that this means she's secretly queer? Which is nonsense because an artist doesn't have to be the same as you, or have the same life for you to find meaning or identity in the music. It's kind of the point that music can reach all of us regardless of background and that's the beauty of it.
