It's never happened to me. I always find it odd when someone can't separate a fandom from its media.

Do you not make associations in your brain? Where your brain pairs certain things and come to mind unbidden?

If I feel like I'm making an association that doesn't make sense, I actively separate the two things. But in this case, the association doesn't really happen at all; I see fandom and the media that inspires it as only tangentially related.
