For some reason, this reminds me of when my dad told me it was about a breakup while I was still in elementary school. I was a bit young to really understood what a breakup was (especially since my parents generally had a good relationship throughout my childhood), but that explanation stuck with me.

It is about a breakup, even if it isn’t the usual kind of breakup song. He came up with like 99% of the music and lyrics in one sitting where he poured all his rage and bitterness and regrets about his divorce into it. Knowing that, some lines still don’t really fit that narrative for me but idc because listening to that the song is all about the buildup and then the beat drops and it’s absolute perfection *chef’s kiss*
