Except there are no female characters who are completely traditionally masculine. None. They all have at least one traditionally feminine trait. Yes, I do think some people see femininity as weakness. But some of us just want to see some fully masculine women.

Buffy-like women who are badass and also super feminine are awesome. More of those. But also more masculine women, please.

I'm not sure that even exists in real life.

Eh, a lot of things that are considered feminine traits are just “being a nice person.” If you’re kind and polite and try to understand other people’s emotions, apparently that’s unmanly.

Zarya from Overwatch?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-19 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
What about Zarya is masculine? I don't know much about Overwatch, but from what I can see, she's just muscular.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-19 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Muscular is traditionally masculine.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-19 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The fuck it is. Besides, the comment was about "completely" masculine.

I mean short haircuts are still seen as butch when worn by women who are tall/muscular-- pixie cuts being accepted as feminine comes and goes out of fashion, but even then, if you're not a waifish, big-eyed gamine type people are going to read it as masc.

Of course, Zarya's is dyed PINK, which I think is pretty femme. Plus she's clearly a makeup girly. She's just also buff and has weapons. It's kind of bullshit that Zarya reads as masc and D-va as femme.

Hair dyed in any unnatural color is not something I'd classify as femme.

Zarya has pink hair and wears nail polish and winged eyeliner. The only reason people think she's masculine is that she's tall and muscular.

Moira is probably the least gender conforming female character in OW, but even she was made less androgynous ingame than she was in the concept art. The concept art didn't even have eyebrows, but the ingame model has those, plus eyeliner.

+1000

(Anonymous) 2023-10-19 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Fucking amen, where are all the butches??

(Anonymous) 2023-10-19 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Who are these butches that are 100% masculine? Hell, who on the planet is? I've never met a man who didn't have at least one feminine trait, let alone a woman who didn't have any.

Pvt. Vasquez in Aliens?

HNGH VASQUEEEEEZZZZZZ

(Anonymous) 2023-10-19 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
But you will inevitably see even the butchest character imaginable as having at least one feminine trait, because if you try hard enough, any trait can be "feminine" just by not being overtly masculine. You're the one who is determined not to find a female character who fits your butch-enough standards, because you will always find that one feminine trait you're looking for by declaring it feminine according to whatever logic you invented to make it fit.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-19 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
If they didn't have a single female trait wouldn't that just be a man?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-20 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
No, it would be a woman without any feminine traits.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-20 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
But just by being female she has feminine traits.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-20 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Are you misunderstanding on purpose?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-20 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
But that's not possible. There isn't a single person on this planet, man or woman, who doesn't have at least one feminine trait.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-20 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
What does "fully masculine" even mean though?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-20 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hulk?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-20 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
So like... a man. What they want is a man.

This is so dumb, I don't know any men without a trait that might be labeled feminine. The bar is just placed impossibly high for women.
