Funny as I'm rewatching Next Gen right now. They dedicated an entire episode to Picard's trauma. It also annoys me, OP, that modern writers/showrunners don't recognise the original series did deal with Picard's trauma. Just because it didn't outwardly show him suffering every week doesn't mean the implication was he wasn't dealing with it. The show did, after all, have a counsellor on the ship.
