A while back, I was reading something about how the kind of protagonist trans women eat up like candy is the exact opposite of insulting trans stereotypes. I got to thinking about what would be the opposite of insulting black stereotypes, and I realized I was just describing Black Panther. I mean, where else do you see a national leader who’s also a brilliant scientist?

(Okay, technically that’s also Princess Bubblegum, but she’s a): pink and b): apparently some kind of war criminal according to the arguments on Tumblr.)

I liked Black Panther, it was a fun movie, but not the second one so much. Shuri wasn't interesting enough for me to want to watch her without T'Challa and their interactions.

Either way I'm not in a hurry to watch any more of it, and that's fine as a lot of other people found it fun / empowering / entertaining / representative enough that they won't miss me in the ratings. I do think some people do "perform" their enthusiasm to look good or tick the right boxes to present themselves as Good People, but those would be the small, loud minority.

What do you mean by the opposite of insulting stereotypes? Like the polar opposite of typical stereotypes?

Unrelated to secret, but what would be an example of a protag, trans women would like? Somewhat curious now.

I don’t actually remember what the trans article said. But for the black stuff, I was thinking like, racists say black people have inferior bloodlines, so let’s do the royalist thing with superior bloodlines. (Not my personal style, but if Disney and Nintendo get to do it, anyone can.) And racists say black people are stupid, so let’s have a black protagonist who’s really smart, and I think I came up with a third thing.

I hear you, OP. I'm not a big fan of season long arcs because they just feel overdone and dragged out to me, and because they often focus on a ridiculous supervillain type character. I prefer shows that are bit episodic in nature, generally speaking. A theme or something that ties the episodes together are fine, but again, I prefer a light hand with that. A good example: Pokerface.

Do you feel guilty when you take a sick day? Wednesday in my busiest work day. But I woke up this morning so nauseous I couldn't walk without gagging. So I called in but then spent the moments when I was awake feeling guilty about all the work I was missing and would have to catch up on.
