Honestly, it's cool if you get into furry art without ever having your own 'sona! Not everyone is into the furry scene for the same reasons, so not everyone needs one in order to be a furry. A lot of furry fanartists, in particular, get into it to draw their favorite characters and never feel the need to have a 'sona of their own. Some eventually design one to be their 'face' within the fandom, but like... you can also use an avatar that's a piece of furry fanart you drew or a picture of an animal you like, and no one worth hanging out with would give you grief over that.

I'm not saying the community is a big cuddle pile all the time, it's just like any fandom-- there are always going to be some problem people, but there are also a LOT of friendly, welcoming ones who are just excited to share what they love.

(I don't really have a current fursona myself! I haven't redesigned one since transing my gender. I do have other OCs, but a LOT of what I draw is just... what would my favorite characters from non-furry media be if they were in Animal Crossing/Zootopia/Sonic the Hedgehog-- trying my hand at different styles of anthro, but my favorite thing to do is what you do!)

As a furry who is also transitioning, what would you say is the most difficult aspect that has been impeding your progress on making a new fursona? For me, I have an actual suit of my character. They are not only my assigned gender, but also have a religious and cultural identity as well. I dipped my toes into looking up the religious and cultural gender identities that would work best for them, but I am also really stuck because they are such a specific character and it feels ... well, *wrong* to change them.

I have started designing my new fursona, but I'm not so attached to them just yet. I also don't have another 2$k to drop on a new suit, lol.

Honestly I don't know-- mine is further towards the funny animal/children's book illustration-style end of the scale, so there aren't a lot of changes that have to be made for my fursona to transition with me, but it was fun drawing a little cat in frilly girly dresses... so I haven't really bothered with drawing him in more masc fashion yet.
