Someone who's bad at writing fic should still give it their best shot and do the work themselves.

Why?

If you're not going to put in the effort, why should I bother to read it?

(Anonymous) 2023-11-05 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
But there's loads of shit on AO3 that I don't want to read; that's never stopped anyone from posting it before, and I don't think it should stop them.

Exactly. There's a ton of fic in my fandoms that's not my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean the authors can't still post it if they want.

There's lots on AO3 I don't care to read, either, but if you give me the option of someone shitting out a fic via AI or someone actually trying because they want to share something, I'll take option two every time. And objectively, option two is not going to be especially well-written! But it was written by a person who actually gave enough of a shit to put themselves out there, and even if I don't like the result, that matters to me.

+1

For me, fandom is all about the act of sharing joy with others. Plugging words into a shitty machine isn't sharing any kind of human emotion, just blatant consumerist "MORE" that I have zero interest in.

But the relevant question is not what you, personally, find interesting. Or what I, personally, find interesting and worthwhile.

Because art you made is worth something and something made by a computer means very little without human thought or intention. Computers don't have brains; they only do what you tell them. Why do anything, by your logic? I guess anyone creative should just give up, what's the point of self-expression?

Are you even human?

There are a lot of people who don't write creative fiction

(Anonymous) 2023-11-05 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
So maybe posting to the creative fiction site isn't for them? A lot of people don't quilt, but that doesn't mean it's okay for them buy a bed-in-a-bag off Amazon and enter it into the quilting competition at the county fair.
