Re: What are some nitpicky things you hate about shows you enjoy?

I occasionally watch a BL show here and there and most of the time I enjoy the chemistry quite a bit but then it gets to a more steamy scene and it's just very clear that the actors are very obviously avoiding their hips/dicks to touch and I can't look away. It takes me out of the scene. Like, if the actors don't want it, maybe film from a different angle or something? Or just show me kissing and roaming hands or something. There are options.

Agreed. Same goes for kissing scenes where it feels like the actors are unnaturally leaning forward and/or frozen in place, as if they're avoiding any bodily contact beyond lips and maybe hands. A "passionate" kiss that doesn't involve cuddling or hugging or that doesn't have much movement is odd.

It's definitely not just a BL thing, but the last thing I noticed it in was a gay romance (the last episode of season 2 of Our Flag Means Death, and I mostly just noticed it because the other kisses between that couple seemed to avoid that problem). If any romance scene involves characters who have canonically had sex with each other, it's just so much easier to break the illusion.

That's why I loved KP so much. Since both the leads were male models, they were very comfortable getting into each other's spaces and just touching everything. They really sold the sex scenes. It's rare to find a pair of male actors who can do that.
