I'm ok with the show 3 eps in, but I haven't finished it and have been putting it off. However - the fanbase that I've seen in passing have been horrific.
I saw a post basically trying to assign some kind of 'evil' psychology term to people who like a character that is either the villain or problematic and... fucking yikes dude. So when people are saying its super queer, is it a legit thing or just something sanitized for the 'good' gays - because I've seen that mentality in other fandoms before resulting the same way.
Not saying that everybody has to like a bad guy, but if they can't handle people interested in a variety of fictional characters - including the morally icky ones - then they're probably not as progressive as they think.

Please go away.

No? Wtf why do you keep coming on here to be a shit head in every post on here? What are you so miserable that you have to make it everybody else's problem?
I know we're all nerds here, but my god - you are the prime example of needing to go outside and get a breath of fucking air.

That's moreso the fandom's problem than the show's. The show itself seems very willing to let its queer characters be messy and morally questionable; it's not the canon's fault if fans tend to drill things down to simple "good vs. evil" binaries because they struggle with a romcom where both halves of the central couple are flawed people, and where the third wheel losing side of the love triangle is also a nuanced individual who can be empathized with.

Yeah I can believe that. I do intend on finishing the show at some point, but I'm just not getting into the fandom if I can help it.

Definitely an issue with the fans. This IS a show about pirates, for all that it's a queer comedy; everyone is a criminal of some kind. They're not morally good people, so fans have to contort themselves to find an "evil" character. The show does not gloss over the fact that they are full on pirates.

I wasn't feeling like I wanted to get into the fandom for OFMD anyway, and having seen what the fandom has been doing makes me glad of it. Because holy shit.

That makes sense. I've seen that attitude in so many shows/series that are not strictly good vs evil and trying to pick out the villain and hero.
