OP

Thanks for making my secret, secret maker! I personally have some dolls intended as kids' toys and some dolls intended for adult collectors on my display shelves, and I just don't expect the same quality from the kids' dolls or see a problem with kids' toys in general having design decisions for their intended demographic.

For instance, I see a lot of complaining about simple molded-on clothing being a bad choice for adults interested in customizing dolls. But for a young kid who plays outdoors or in water with their toys, they're a sensible decision. There are all types of complaints like that where I just think we should keep in mind that some toys really aren't intended for adults (though we are free to collect them if we like them) and won't cater to us. I love the doll collecting fandom but this is definitely a gripe I have.

Thank you for these glimpses into a fandom I have zero familiarity with! It seems bizarre to me that people could lose perspective that way. As if people forgot they're not the main demographic for a certain product, even if they feel like they're way more important and/or the majority. Fandom can be like that, though.

You're 100% right, but kid!me would have been so frustrated by not being able to take off molded on clothes! ("My girl can't go save her sister from the evil kidnapper (who was ALWAYS named Sandy after the boy from Flipper?????), who wants to blackmail her for her farm, on horseback in THAT outfit!")

I think both options have their value for different kids. I used to be uninterested in the changing fashion aspect of dolls when I was very young and liked taking my dolls on outdoor trips with me, so I had some favorites with molded clothes. As an adult I'm the opposite, I love doll fashion, and so do many kids. So I don't see either type as a bad toy, just with different purposes.
