Yeah, I would kind of be curious to hear examples of good scifi that doesn't touch on real world issues whatsoever, because this is what I pictured too.

DA, but 'Incandescence' comes to mind. One of my absolute favorite SF books, and it's about an alien species trying to stop their world (which is a chunk of rock hanging out in an accretion disc) from falling into the neutron star that it's been orbiting.

I guess you could say it deals with "real world issues" in that neutron stars, accretion discs, and physics are all real things, but otherwise, it's just characters doing science as fast as they can.
