When I see takes like this I just assume the person stopped watching after like, a couple seasons of the Eleventh Doctor because the Twelfth Doctor era is obviously the best part of New Who. I get having issues with the Eleventh or Thirteenth Doctor eras, still think they're better than Ten but I understand that's subjective. Twelfth Doctor rules tho that's just an objective fact.

Capaldi is an excellent Doctor, which just makes it all the more tragic that the rest of the show around him is just the absolute worst. I wish we could find a way to keep Capaldi, but lose literally everything else about that era.

DA

What around him exactly was the worst? And how was it that different from RTD's era? Chibnell's era was super different from everything else. But I don't think Moffat's was all that different from RTD.

DA but it definitely feels like the show was different between the RTD eras and Moffat eras. Not in terms of the spirit of the character or anything - more in terms of its stylistic and technical attributes.

The way that the show is shot visually and the way that it's edited, the way that episodes are plotted out, the way that episodes fit into larger season-long plots - all of that feels very different between the Moffat era and the RTD era. It seemed like RTD generally used fairly familiar, traditional TV episode structures and the familiar visual language of TV adventure stories and soap operas. OTOH Moffat had a very distinctive style he wanted to use where there's a ton of impressionistic quick cuts and the story and plotline are often sort of obscure and reveal themselves in a complex and indirect way. IMO it's also very similar to the stuff he was doing on Sherlock.

And like, obviously those are both legitimate styles and people can like or dislike either one. But it totally makes sense to me *why* people would like one and hate the other bc they are quite different IMO.

Yeah, the worst Companions ever. I also dislike Amy and Adric but all the others are ok at least. Including the book ones.

I loved Twelve as a version of the Doctor and I loved Capaldi but there's a ton of things about the show during that era I really didn't like. Especially season 8 - I *hated* season 8.

The season with Twelve and Bill was the best and I was a bit sad it wasn’t longer. I liked Clara with Twelve more than Eleven, but she stuck around way too long IMO.
