Damn, OP, where the hell do you work that you don't have time off? But I feel you. I really wish I could just stay home and read all day instead of going to work.

I'm wondering the same thing. Even my shittiest retail jobs would all give time off if you were actually sick.

lmao! Mine wouldn't. Not even if you handled food.

I honestly don't understand that. The logic my jobs had was that if you came in sick, you might get your coworkers sick and then they'd be down two or three people instead of just one, so it was better to let one person take the day off instead of potentially infecting half the staff and ending up with several people having to call out.

Do other jobs... not see it like that?

DA

Nope. Here in the US, most of the lowest paying jobs (including hospitality/food prep/etc, janitorial, medical staff, etc) expect you to work through your illness. It doesn't matter if you get your co-workers sick because they're ALSO expected to work through any illness. Unlike most people, I actually have sick leave, but I can only take so many before I'm put on "probation". I get three instances of non-planned PTO (aka sick leave) before I get written up. It's up to the discretion of my manager if that's three literal days days (i.e. one illness) or three instances of a few days each.

Jobs? Maybe. Greedy fuck bosses, especially in America? Hell no, they don't care. (When I was young, I was literally told "well, it's not like you're gonna DIE!" when trying to get out of working when I had a cold). Once in a while you'll get a good person in charge but once the business is taken over by assholes who only care about their profit margin/bonuses/etc, everyone else can go fuck themselves. Employees, customers, they don't care.

I'm lucky to be out of such shit jobs and now working for a company that seems to have SOME awareness that its employees need and benefit from time off.
