You know, I had a funny thought... the people who assume bamboo wouldn't be on another planet might not be aware of bamboo's reputation for being an invasive species. It's against the law to plant it in some places! So who knows, maybe a tiny rootlet of bamboo somehow made it to planet Zarkon ten years ago and now the planet Zarkon looks like one gigantic bamboo forest.

SAME, omg, OP. I'm 4 months into a new job, have about 8 hours sick time so far, every person on my 'team' (we cover four residences) has been sick as s FUCKING DOG (me included) for the last two weeks, and one of our individuals is now COVID positive. We all mask at work (and they're on room quarantine) - but holy fuck, it makes me so angry. I worked four days (five?) last week were I ate almost nothing, felt like utter shite, went home to shower and sleep and do NOTHING else, and felt like a wrung-out dishrag. COVID-negative, but i had SOMETHING.

It sounds like you're trying really hard to tell yourself that this show is "objectively terrible" because you know that's what you're supposed to think in order to be a good person. But the reality is that you find it funny, and that's okay.

Mean-spirited humor relies on the juxtaposition between what's being said and what we know is acceptable. There can be a kind of catharsis in it, similar to how gallows humor helps people to cope with shitty things.

I dunno this specific movie, but Magneto generally boils down to “We have to kill Them so They don’t kill Us first.” As someone who’s usually Them in these scenarios, I resent that. (And hell, you can currently see this dynamic on the nightly news, alongside the body counts of the people who’ve been assigned as Them!)

The Tanizaki siblings relationship is a hint for one of the author's character called Naomi (痴人の愛, Chijin no Ai, lit. A Fool's Love) with a female character way attached to the MC while she was interested in Western world after the WWII.

And of course the fandom (at least the oldest) would be casual the mafia boss being a pedo because: Elise is not a real kid, is his power, and he's a villain. Villains do villain stuff, stuff people know that IRL they are illegal. All the writings about him doing something to Yosano or Dazai are just headcanons and Asagiri never confirmed them.

I think fantasy/sci-fi names sound just fine. It would be weird to insert names from our world into a world that isn't ours. I say just read and try to get used to them.
