What are you watching?

(Anonymous) 2023-11-21 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I am brain dead latley, total lack of attention span or ability to think through plots. I really hope it's due to the cold I'm struggling with but either way its left me struggling to find something to watch. I've just been putting nature docs on and zoning in and out to interesting or pretty animal facts.

I've been going through my list of horror movies to watch.

I watched 'The Innocents' (the one from 2021) the other night. I loved how quiet and patient it was, how it established a sense of place; you can usually expect that from Nordic films, so I've really found myself drawn to them in recent years. It built its tension well, and while it's not particularly original, I liked the suggestion that children are more open to the supernatural, and therefore can access abilities that adults cannot. On the other hand, there's some things about it that I imagine people would view as problematic.

I watched 'Gerald's Game's last night. Mike Flanagan was casting a bunch of his preferred actors even back then! 🤣 I enjoyed most of it; it relies on a great storytelling device, and the protagonist's life-defining trauma is revealed at the perfect pace. The end, though? It's like they thought they'd run out of time (the run time's only an hour forty! You had room!) and shifted from thoughtful exposition to absurd info dump. Plus, the make-up and prosthetics for the "monstrous" character are laughable. There are so many different, better ways they could have ended it, and it's unfortunate that the direction they took mars an otherwise strong film.

Just watched 9-1-1 for the first time over the last 10 days.

Kind of want to go back and watch it again immediately. I love the 'chosen family' vibe.

Someone suggested I watch Haikyu!! since I liked Bungo Stray Dogs so much. But they don't have an English dub on Crunchyroll so that is a no go for me. So trying My Hero Academia.

Red Dwarf. it's the only thing we haven't gotten binge-fatigue of it because we have to use physical dvds and getting up to change them is soooooo 1990s. everything we can stream we've marathoned so much I can't stomach to even hear the words "Star Trek" anymore.

Aw I love Red Dwarf. I've been meaning to rewatch the later series before I get round to watching the movie again.

it's such dumb fun. I'm scared of newer seasons, though, they're all so old...they did still have the chemistry in the movie, though, so maybe everything post-movie will be just as good.

Trying to get into Kamen Rider, started to watch Kamen Rider W because it was recommended for a begginer. It's alright, but still need to get invested. Someone also recced OOO as well, so if W doesn't do it for me, I'll try that.

I did watch Black and really liked it.

1st watch:
S6 Pt 1 The Crown (got teary during Aftermath ep)
The White Lotus S1 & S2 (well now this is quite a show, lol. Not clamoring for a S3 but if they make one I know I'll watch it.)
Fellow Travelers (as it airs, I don't like politics in my entertainment usually but this gets a pass for steamy stuff)
Our Flag Means Death S2 (I loved the finale!)
Life On Our Planet (narrated by Morgan Freeman) tried bingeing the first 3 episodes (of 8 total) but it was becoming too funny all the "these creatures lived and then a thing happened AND THEN ..." mini cliff hanger at the end of every episode. So now I only watch 1 at a time, every couple of days. Also, Morgan Freeman's voice is too relaxing sometimes - it's very even volumed and pleasant, which lulls me if I'm already tired.
Rewatch:
Teen Wolf S1 (a friend is watching and I'm just refreshing so we can talk about it on discord)

Classic Doctor Who on Tubi (in Canada...not sure if US Tubi has it). Currently a couple serials in on the Second Doctor (skipped right to him, because I'd never seen any, before). I'm going to miss the animation used to recreate the (recreatable) lost episodes when I get to a serial that actually survived, honestly.
