What are you reading?

Just a companion to the other thread. What are you reading or maybe the last book you read? Or a book you are looking forward to?

System Collapse by Martha Wells

I just finished the latest Murderbot book. It was honestly a bit of a let down, but I'm still happy to have it.

I'm 200th in line to get it at the library. Every time I pay people real money to get books in series that I'm enjoying, I end up being horribly disappointed, so the library is my new jam.

I got all of the previous ones from the library, but upon my 3rd time wanting to reread but having to wait for holds I decided to buy the whole series. This is the first one I've been at all disappointed with. And its still fun! Just not quite the level I had come to expect of the series.

But yeah generally I'm with you. I almost always get them from the library before spending hard earned money on them.

Working on Gideon the Ninth for the first time. I don't know if I like it so far, but I do want to see what happens next.

I've def read books like that. Where I'm not really enjoying it but I'm at least still interested in where the author is going.

I'm about to start that one myself! I've had a good friend speak highly of it and my sister loved it and is lending me her copy.

Yeah, that was my feeling about it, too. I'm not crazy about first person POV, and in this case if you dislike the strong narrator voice... well, it's going to be a long haul. I stuck it out, but so far haven't been able to get very far into the sequel. Don't think I'm going to finish the series.

Reading 'Cloudsplitter.' Wow, is it engrossing. The language, the level of description... I have no idea how accurate it actually is, wrt to the characterization of John and Owen Brown, but I've been sucked in enough that I almost don't care.

Love Bites by Ry Herman.

Its a queer vampire story with women and I've been enjoying it so far.

Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree. I juuuust started so no verdict yet, but I really enjoyed his other book with this character so I'm excited.

I always forget that he’s an author! He’s also a narrator for other fantasy authors, which is how I know of him. I haven’t listened to much of his work though because I WFH and the daily commute was my audiobook time.

Thats interesting! I wonder if he narrates his own books. I'm not much of an audiobook person but it would be fun to listen to an experienced narrator read his own work!

You made me curious so I checked Audible and sure enough, he does! The first book in his coffee house series caught my eye and it happens to be exactly as long as my trip to my aunt’s house tomorrow, so I grabbed it. I’ll try to remember to report back later this week.

Warrior's Apprentice by Lois McMaster Bujold. I just made my way through Shards of Honor and Barrayar and I'm excited to see what shenanigans the next generation gets up to.
