Re: (secret about fandom in general warning for discussion of pedophilia and incest)

I feel like the people who believe that sort of thing must be NEETs who live in their parents' basements and never go out into the real world and interact with other human beings at all or else they would grasp that fiction =/= reality. They're so terminally online that they can't understand that there's a world out there beyond the internet.

I did read a study somewhere that loneliness maybe in excessive amounts can blur a line between fiction and reality. When i saw that I was reminded of the kind of people saying this. The best way I heard them described is they treat real people like fictional characters and fictional characters like real people.

Idk maybe.. just not having enough interaction could be a factor. but I have to draw a line with some of the harassment I've seen some of them do. That's not okay.

A lot of them are either living with their parents because they're still technically children or have barely moved past that and are college-aged, and the adults in their life have totally fucked them up. The same culture that has left them thinking that keeping any of your personal details/thoughts/opinions to yourself is the same as lying has also left them unable to fathom the idea that you can imagine things that you don't want/need to be true in real life. On a less serious, but still sad, fandom note, this is why multi-shippers and crack-shippers are a dying breed these days.

Meh. From what I've seen, the most vocal antis are not that way because of their parents or upbringing but because they spend too much time in weird social media echo chambers where they either get radicalised by their peers or groomed by older antis. Plenty of the kids raging against even the smallest age gap relationships have parents with considerable age gaps.

nayrt but I can see this. There was a fandom I was in where someone who was either a young millennial or old zoomer started a "movement" to "fight" pedophilia in fanfiction. The fandom ranged from kids to adults, and while maybe it didn't come out of left field, it sure felt like it did. Then I saw another young adult talking about how such ships "scared" the younger fans and "made them feel unsafe." In retrospect, I wish I'd said something, but back then I didn't know wtf was going on. Thankfully the movement ended the way it deserved to: like the fizzling of a bad fart.
