And yet he refuses to do the one thing that would win back the crowds, and decanonize the late Moffat/Chibnall era nonsense. Instead RTD is doubling down on it.

There’s no need. The whole point is that it’s fluid.

And yet not. Because it the viewership numbers and merch numbers showed it really did matter after all. Turns out, pretty solid.

I guarantee you, the casual crowds who only want to sit back and enjoy the telly are far larger than the fandom crowds who will never be happy no matter what the showrunners try to do. But decanonizing previous showrunners' work is just disrespectful. It's there, it happened, just let it go and move on. I hated it when Moffat attempted to do that to RTD, and I will hate it if RTD attempts to do that to either Moffat or Chibnall.

I'm not sure that's what casual viewers want. I'm not sure they care, really, as long as what they're watching in the moment is enjoyable.

It's fandom that cares about what is and is not canon.

Do you really think the "crowds" give a single solitary shit about canon?

Casual watchers don't know, care, or remember. Only dedicated Doctor Who fans give a shit about that. And it's not like it had a tight canon in the first place.
