Nah, I just don't care about edgy atheists.

You think that's edgy, but not the wacked out stuff about dogs pissing in beds?

And plenty of people don't care about batshit religious extremists.

Religious fanaticism is not (mostly) what is going on with Israel-Palestine. Some people on both sides are religious extremists, but it's not the primary motivating factor for either side or the primary factor driving the conflict.

So... the democratically elected Hamas government, which is supported by many Palestinians and many Muslims around the world, is NOT religiously extemist?

No, Hamas is absolutely religious extremists (as are parts of the Israeli government). But the conflict in general is not religious or principally caused by religious extremism.

I don't see how it's not. Both sides believe that they have an eternal claim on the land due to their religious beliefs.

It's much more about ethno-national belonging and the fact that both sides have a legitimate claim to be indigenous to the land than it is any specifically religious claims.

Again a lot of people on both sides are religious, and religious divides on both sides have definitely made the conflict worse. But religion is not at the root of the conflict. There are absolutely secular Zionists and secular Palestinian nationalists.

The root of the conflict is that Zionists believe that the Jewish people should have a nation and that it should be in the ancient homeland of the Jewish people, Palestinian nationalists believe that the Palestinian people should have a nation and it should be in the land in which Palestinians historically lived, and those two places are the same place.
