Face it, a female doctor just was not a thing most of the viewership wanted. It has nothing to do with woke.

You ever think that it wasn't the content but the execution people didn't like? You see it a lot.

Oh, sure, we'll make this female led - and then starve it of funds, lowering the quality of the writing, directing, acting, effects, production, etc. Act like female-led is February and it's dump-the-garbage time. Then it doesn't get as much attention as everything else, and they say it was only the fact that it was female led... It couldn't possibly be that people didn't like the story telling, or the writing didn't work as well for a female doctor because almost if not all the writers were men... no, it was only the fact that a woman played the doctor. smh

Fucking this. All of my problems with 13 were the writing quality (and lack thereof). I was SO looking forward to a female doctor.

+100, Not even on the Doctor Who bandwagon, but I've seen things play out like this so many times, it's insane that people don't see right thought it.

This! I quite liked Thirteen and her fam and some episodes were good, but man, there were some choices made that did not do the show any favors. You know it's bad when the cast has so much natural chemistry in interviews and little to none of that chemistry is seen on screen. And I'll be forever frustrated by Thirteen's emotional constipation. There were so many moments where I thought she was finally gonna open up and let her companions in, only for her to bottle everything back up again.

This. Then again, that too is subjective. Personally I really liked her first season. After that it went downhill for me.

This. Jodie was fine. The fact that they had her act completely out of character, not be a main character on her own show, and basically function as a walking Wikipedia entry was the problem.

So weird. When I said this on the other thread I got called a misogynist...

It was unpopular because of the shitty writing and direction.

Seriously, the early episodes of 13's run had objectively strong ratings. People switched it off because it was a bad show. Chris Chibnall is by far the worst modern showrunner, and it's a tight competition for all-time worst head writer between him and Eric Saward.

None of the reasons for the critical and popular failure of his run have to do with casting a woman as the Doctor.

oh shut up, how many doctors were there post-Tennant? it has nothing to do with one woman.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
You know most of the viewership? Amazing!

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, there really are knuckledraggers who stopped watching when Jodie was cast and they’ve been shouting about it ever since. But they’re not the reason for the ratings decline during Thirteen’s run; that’s down to crappy storylines and terrible direction.

Oh fuck off. I loved Jodie's Doctor. I've waited for this run so much. But the writing was so bland I had to nope out. Also viewership spiked in her first episodes.
