You're assuming OP doesn't/has never had a job that starts at 8 AM, or doesn't know that people work at 8 AM.

You sound like those "EAT UNTIL YOUR BELLY IS BURSTING BECAUSE KIDS ARE STARVING IN AFRICA" people from the 80s. OP's complaint has NOTHING to do with people who get up at the asscrack of dawn to go to work. I say this as someone who used to get up at the asscrack of dawn to drive an hour and fifteen minutes to my job ONE WAY, every weekday for a year.

Well, I tend not to like this recent idea that it's wrong to suggest someone put things in perspective. Often, things simply aren't as bad as we think they are, and being able to recognize this makes the little irritations of life easier to deal with.

Also, to be quite honest, there is a kind of privilege to complaining about minor things. If the worst thing we have to worry about is getting up early, then we've got it pretty good.

Side note: I never liked the "there are starving people in Place" thing. That's an argument for eating less, so that food can be more equitably distributed, not for eating more.

No one is taking issue with putting things in perspective. They're taking issue with your smugness and your assumptions.
