I'm reminded of the time I (unwisely, I know) got into it with someone who had convinced herself that a great way to combat homophobia was to relentlessly attack young women for writing slash fanfiction.

Oh god not the "yaoi is evil and homophobic because it fetishises gay people and women calling themselves fujoshi means they're homophobes"crowd. Some of them are actually convinced that fujoshi are more homophobic than regular old homophobes. Not to mention they usually ship slash ships as well but for some reason it's different when they do it lol.

Same mentality that comes with anti-choice women who get abortions. It's necessary when they do it. Everyone else who gets one is a slut and a murderer.

It's different when they do it because they're in it for the story and relationship dynamics and not just the sex! Oh they're in it for the sex too of course, and the sex is super hot, and they love reading about it A LOT, but you see, all other fujoshi are homophobes and only care about that and absolutely nothing else. Liking the characters' dynamic is so unique and special and not a big drive behind almost everyone ever's shipping habits.
