Re: Non-fandom confessions.

This post deserves understanding and sympathy.

However, I don't understand why a post saying, "someone died in front of me and I'm upset about it" receives neither of those things. Instead, the poster gets accused of trolling and gets told that they're selfish and inconsiderate for talking about such a thing. Before someone says, "well did they put this on someone else's post?" No, it was in its own post.

Is it the fact that, in this post, anon expresses some gladness over the current state of things? Like, if anon said, "my mother died unexpectedly, and I'm struggling with that," would the response be disparaging instead of supportive?

Different groups of people are online at different times, you can't generalize responses to specific threads several posts apart. If I recall correctly the incident you're talking about involved someone making odd comments that suddenly began talking about their trauma mid thread which I believe left some anons confused about if they were trolling, but other people replied sympathetically to that person as well. Trying to make up drama, anon?

I don't know what post you're referring to, and I hope you're not trying to use this thread to shit-stir.

I can see why someone might think it's sympathy-searching (usually the accuser has their own shit they're projecting), but... accusing someone of being selfish and inconsiderate is generally a bad response to someone venting about being a witness to a death.¹ Witnessing a death is a type of trauma, and it's natural to be upset about it.

As for OP, I'm not sure why the comparison? Every post should be taken and analyzed individually. It's not a contest of sympathy or suffering, and if you don't care about nuance or context, you should probably stay out of the discussion.

¹Unless it's one of those rare cases where the poster has known history of trying to divert sympathy from another to themselves when it's inappropriate.

Depends, is it being used as "you must excuse my actions or be bad people, I can't control myself in public and am going to be an emotionally manipulative ass because someone died in front of me a while ago" you're gonna get pushback. Which, if you're the anon I'm thinking about, you rightfully got.
