TBF, Nicholas Lyndhurst is the best thing about most things he's in.

Except New Tricks, he just felt too forced in that one. His character was too Mary Sue-ish because the writers were too rushed in his casting.

I loved New Tricks but I sometimes think about how there's an argument for ending it when the original actors started not wanting to do it anymore. I get that they didn't all go at the same time but still.

They were okay when it was just Wedge being added to the show, even Tamzin Outhwaite mostly, because they made an effort to actually write the characters as characters so they could bring something to the show's dynamic. Lyndhurst and the other one were just a collection of cliches quickly jammed into the pre existing scripts, and that showed badly.

Definitely can see that point. It's been a while since I watched any of it but I seem to remember I was ok with the first couple of exits. Tbh, of the original line up Gerry was my least fave and he stuck around the longest iirc, which was annoying!

I had mixed feelings about Gerry, but you know what was hilarious... that his ex-wives all got along and were like one big found family, along with their respective daughters.

I didn't mind his character in New Tricks, but my memory is a bit dim. I do recall that the show was definitely not as good as it was in earlier seasons, and Lyndhurst's casting was probably an attempt to prop it up after the original cast started leaving.

This is the first thing I've ever seen him in - I wasn't even familiar with him name before this show.

But yeah, I really enjoyed him on the show this season, too. I may have to start checking out some of his other work at some point as well :).

I'd avoid Goodnight Sweetheart, where he plays timetravelling cheating bigamist scumbag, Gary Sparrow, and the scriptwriters steadfastly refuse to acknowledge that his character is a lying, gaslighting, scumbag. It used to be hugely popular in the UK, for some reason.

Ugh that used to play on Gold right after a few episodes of Last of the Summer Wine. I’d race into the lounge to switch it off so I wouldn’t have to listen. Easily one of the worst shows ever.

He's good in Butterflies, but he is such a baby in that show. He is so damn young.

there were good things about the Frasier reboot?

Don't be that guy, come on.

He's great but loving seeing Jack Cutmore-Scott (whose shows keep getting cancelled after one season making it difficult to find new material)
