Why do you want the show cancelled? BBC Worldwide is trying to avoid the fate of JNT’s Who. Like it or not, it’s working.

It helps that the BBC's head honcho doesn't hate the show with a fiery passion.

From a strictly production point of view, JNT was mostly not the problem with Who or the person most responsible for its cancellation? JNT wasn't great and had many flaws and made many poor decisions and got into many dumb fights. But he also was an effective producer in many ways and the show was really good during the JNT-Cartmel era. The person most responsible for the poor quality of the show during the 5 and 6 eras was Eric Saward and the person most responsible for the cancellation was Michael Grade.

Also, the idea that RTD is *the only* person who could possibly save Doctor Who today is probably overstating the case a good bit.

I disagree about RTD being the only one who can save it being an overstatement. They have to get back the audience they lost. There isn’t a new audience waiting out there for them somewhere. They have alienated the audience, no pun intended, and every previous attempt to win them back has failed. It was this or cancellation, and this only came about by chance.

I don't see why that would be true. A bunch of the audience tuned back in to check out Chibnall's Who after Moffat left. And then they left pretty quickly, because Chibnall's Who was crap (due to the poor writing specifically, no hate to the performers). But I see no reason why they wouldn't be willing to check back in again? I don't see what Chibnall did that so uniquely, totally alienated the entire potential viewing audience. There's a lot of people who basically like Doctor Who and are interested in watching it when it's good.

It was this or cancellation, and this only came about by chance.

Do you have specific evidence for this?

There's a lot of people who basically like Doctor Who and are interested in watching it when it's good.

Me for example. I generally did like what RTD did before, so I came into the current situation cautiously optimistic rather than having no thoughts one way or the other, but if it had been someone I hadn't heard of before that'd be fine and I'd still have come back for a while to see if they were any good. (If it somehow had been Steven Moffat, lol... well, that still would probably have been okay because I was okay with his previous material too, flaws and all. But "cautiously optimistic" might have been downgraded a bit to "really? well, I'll give him a chance, anyway".)

I rather watch 5th and 3d Doctor then give the new one a chance at this point. I gave it like 5 min? Found the companions annoying and said bye. I can't even say if the current plots are good or bad.

Not OP but like. I would rather have another set of wilderness years than endless fucking Tenth Doctor content forever.

He was literally just in three episodes.

Aren't there serious allegations of JNT being an Actual Bad Person?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
He was a nonce

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
It is Who. According to the fanbase, every producer is somehow a Very Bad Person in some way. Even RTD is catching flack for the Shooti Gatwa regeneration. You're never gonna be pure enough for Who fans.

???
JNT was one of the child predators of the 80s that the BBC was protecting. This isn’t just random fandom wank.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
One guy claimed that, one guy who was not alleging that he himself was a victim. Also, this was during the time the age of consent for gay men was set at 21, so minors in this sense meant actual adults, also also, the guy alleging this was a scumbag who got ripping people off in phone in competition calls for Blue Peter.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Right and like, JNT has always gotten that kind of hate from Who fans since he took over as producer, but that's a separate thing from the serious allegations of him being a sexual predator

(Anonymous) 2023-12-15 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Allegations yes. Credible. No.
