Transcript: I think these kinds of memes are terrible. The assumptions they make about what is considered inspiring is infuriating. It also ignores that there are plenty of fluffy books and other written materials out there. The worst part is I tend to see these in writing-focused communities. It makes me glad I just write somewhat casually and don't take it quite as seriously as I used to.

In the grand scheme of things, I think fiction is a castle in the air. It doesn’t teach truths, only what authors perceive as truths.

(Well, fiction except Math Blasters.)

Well, but you find these types of people everywhere. If it's not intellectual 'superiority', it's moral, or physical. There is always some reason why they are 'better' than those other people.

Jesus that’s cringey AF. And I say that as someone who cannot sit still and focus on a screen more than 2-3 minutes at a time but can read for hours without pause.

Very Facebook meme vibe here.

People who pay this type of stuff and think it's deep are usually not deep thinkers themselves.

I did in fact find it on Facebook, oddly from a friend who has been working on getting a writing career going and has finish a couple novel drafts during NaNo. One of her other friends jumped in with a counterpoint similar to what's in my secret, and that move made me a tad more hopeful in the prospect of deep thinking persisting.

I love to read but there are lots of bad books and lots of great movies and TV shows. The "new media bad" concept is such bullshit.
