How Are We Today?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-16 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I've caught a cold and I'm putting off doing a major clean of my room, even though this weekend would be the best time to do it ._.

Putting off answering a family member who's asking to visit for the holidays. Thing is, I said no last year... and I'm absolutely not feeling it this year either. But I can't keep ignoring the message. Yet that's what I keep doing. I hate it. And I'm sure they hate being ignored too. Goddamnit.

I'm sorry you got a cold, nonny. Hopefully you feel better soon.

I finally got around to cleaning the house. I've been stressed out work, so I've been putting it off, but I'm giving myself a four-day weekend to de-stress and take care of myself. It felt really nice to get a full night's sleep.

I just ate a fulfilling dinner of really thick beef barley soup. I'm planning to watch Fargo and finish reading a book and maybe begin one of the memoirs by Zachary Levi, Jennette McCurdy, or Matthew Perry.

Mailed the last of my non-local gifts and bought a bunch of craft sodas. I also put together an anti-MLM (multilevel marketing) Playlist on YouTube.

Took a nap. Eating from the most unhealthy restaurant in my town, Sonic. Because sometimes you want a messy AF burger. Might have a drink and do some competitive later.

I've got some sort of cold/flu/sinus infection with a slight fever. Feel pretty miserable. Seeing my doc monday. But I had to change all my weekend plans.

I slept most of the day other than watching a couple episodes of 911.

Lazy af. I made biscuits and jammy sunny-side-up eggs this morning and I've been sitting on the couch watching football since after breakfast.

So this last month I've 1) lost my job 2) had to get my tooth extracted and have broke another and had to deal with it (expensive) 3) still have my second job and I do need money so I do have to work anyway. Just my income is much less now. 4) was majorly fucked by our government (no surprises here but it sucks) 5) I've got seasonal depression 6) now I also have got cold. It's really fucking funny considering that I've spend couple days before not even going out to shops. So it is thanks to people from my household, but they are doing alright. It's good but annoying at the same time 7) I have pain flare ups from all the lying down 8) I am probably going to spend New Year's with an asshole homophobic racist bigot. Cool cool cool.
Frankly I am at my wit's end

I'm about a week out from my period starting, which means that I'm dealing with cramps, nausea, diarrhea AND major protein cravings, so that's fun. Today I was eating a plate of chicken wings when I realized that I probably look like a starving wolf. It's a weird habit picked up from childhood when my family didn't have a lot of money - we never starved, but I frequently left the dinner table never quite satisfied, you know? Like I'm not going to die, but I could use another drumstick but there weren't any and and most of the food/protein went to my father, who was the breadwinner.

So I picked up this habit of really stripping a piece of chicken down to the bone whenever I got one. All the meat, even the weird stringy bits and stuff that's probably a vein? And that squishy bit at the joint that's probably cartilage or something. I'd scrape every bone repeatedly with my teeth, get all the skin and tendons and suck whatever sauce/juice was left. I ate everything but organs.

Even today, when I can have as much chicken as I want, I still do this every single time.

Not good. Christmas is a horribly lonely time of year when you're the family outcast. At least I had a few friends contact me, and I've done the last of the local cards and presents. The overseas cards will be late, but that's life.

Today (17th) is my 44th birthday. Mom has been visiting all weekend, but is going home today. I'll read MCU fics and eat birthday cake to celebrate.

=( Sorry to hear you caught a cold. Being sick always suck and everyone has been getting sick here. I wish you a speedy recovery thread OP.

I'm tired as hell. I worked 2 8 hour shifts yesterday (graveyard, went home during day shift, returned for night shift), came home and couldn't sleep immediately. Slept for maybe 3 hours. Rolled around in bed for a while. Got up and went to buy sweaters for my workplace's Holiday Sweater Week. Had to go to 2 different WalMarts because the one closer to my home had no Christmas themed sweaters anymore and Monday's theme is Ugly Sweater Day! Went to the second Walmart and snagged the last Ugly Sweater in my size. Found some faux leather sweat pants that will pair perfectly with my faux white leather coat. I'm going to go all out white for white sweater day. XD I got a cute white knit sweater. Kinda neat that it all just fell together. Too bad I don't have my white earmuffs anymore!! I'm going to see if I can find them.

Christmas Specials

(Anonymous) 2023-12-16 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you watching any Christmas movies, episodes/special, youtube videos, etc?

Re: Christmas Specials

(Anonymous) 2023-12-16 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been trying to find Christmas specials of cartoon shows and so far I've done Charlie Brown, Daria, Adventure Time, The World Of Peter Rabbit & Friends, Futurama and some Spongebob.

Also found out on rewatching HartBeat's Christmas tree video on youtube that it's now 10 years old. I think I need to lay down for a while to recover.

I have Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on DVD (because yes, I still have/play DVDs). It's become a tradition for my husband and me to give it the MST3K treatment. :-D

On YouTube I have found the Garfield and Friends Christmas Special (which somehow I never watched as a kid) and Disney's Very Merry Christmas Sing-a-Long Songs. Honestly, I'm surprised that second has stayed on the platform as long as it has.

I like watching The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers Christmas episodes. And the Charlie Brown movie.

I saw Scrooge (the musical w/Albert Finney), the Christmas carol with Patrick Stewart in it, several eps of the Holiday Baking Championship before it got locked out (fuck you, Roku!), Scrooged, Charlie Brown and the original animated Grinch (NOT the abomination w/Jim Carrey!), Mr. Bean, 1200 Ghosts, the Rifftrax Xmas Shorts live show and a few GBBO Xmas eps.

Even though I watched it a few weeks ago when our internet was down, I'll probably watch Da Kath and Kim Code again (I have the DVD)

I watch Muppet Christmas Carol, Mickey's Christmas Carol, and Rudolf every year!

I'm holding off on watching holiday stuff until I'm on my break (Friday morning I'll be free for 12 days!!!!) because I don't want to make the mistake of overexposure.

I'm going to watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2.
Going to watch Elf.
Watch the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special because I didn't watch it until July of this year LOL It was cute, I enjoyed it a lot.
I'll also likely watch the Christmas episode of Malcolm in the Middle where Lois cancels Christmas and Francis goes to visit Grandma Ida. Grandma Ida was always the best part when she was on the show, she and Francis spending Christmas together was such a riot.
If I can find "Snow Day" and/or "Unaccompanied Minors" I might watch those too. I was a little too old to be the target demographic when those films were released but I watched those films on cable TV in the 2000s and 2010s, they're classics to me.
I'll probably watch a couple versions of "A Christmas Carol". I like the Mickey Mouse/Scrooge McDuck version. I also like the Muppets Christmas Carol.
And I'll find time on my own to watch "It's a Wonderful Life". I didn't watch it until 2019 or 2020 and was surprised that this film lived up to the hype. I feel like it's a film worthy of its' reputation as a Christmas classic. And TBH just a really good film. None of my family or friends like it though. Not many people in my life like old Hollywood films.
I'll be watching "White Christmas" alone too. I don't mind. LOL
It's been a long time since I've watched "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation", I might watch it this year. See how it compares to my childhood memories of it.
"A Christmas Story" has been played out between me and my siblings now, but we do put it on as background noise when we're tired of looking up stuff to watch.
I might watch the cartoon movies for "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas". My younger sister and I enjoy watching them together.

I watch "The Nightmare Before Christmas" year round because there are a couple kiddos in my life who love that film. In my early 20s I was a little obsessed with the film and I watched the movie endlessly and listened to the soundtrack all the time. I don't have all the lyrics perfectly memorized but there was a time I knew every line of the film.
I'm not as obsessive with the film now, I don't go out of my way to watch the film and I don't buy the merch anymore but I don't mind watching the film if someone wants to watch it and I appreciate when people gift me NBC merch.
And I'm one of those people who considers it both a Halloween and Christmas movie. But if I absolutely have to pick I'd say it's a Christmas film because it ends on Christmas.
