9th is the most special but the actor hates DW lol. I personally love the 8th but it's just one movie and a shitton of audio works. Objectively the 9th is the most important. And Rose.

You are forgetting shitton of books for 8th. :D

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Those too! And even an animated movie? Or did I dream it up?

Eccleston doesn't hate Doctor Who, he hates RTD personally I think

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
After everything the Beeb did to him over it, he’s more or less washed his hands of the whole thing. Can’t really blame him but it’s a shame.

Yeah, this annoyed me too. So long as Tennant doesn't appear again, it'll be fine, I can just ignore it. But like... come on RTD.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, I liked it, it was fun,I am not allergic to fun. Also I REALLY didn't want to watch another long dying scene

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked it too. Mainly ‘cause we got to see more of my favorite Doctor and companion duo. Plus having Mel join the family was such a treat.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Doctor and Donna are awesome. And last episode allowed Ncuti's Doctor to shine already, that is a treat.

Also this whole thing made me joke about both Doctors being pantless but with a small linguistic difference and my friends delightfully hate me for this.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-20 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
This. And I didn't know how much I wanted him to have a freaking "happy ending...for now" until he got it. We're all suffering right now. Everything is shit. This was nice.

First, fandom really needs to understand that it is not the only, or the main audience for Doctor Who. Outside of fandom, Tennant was and is the most popular of the new Doctors. Bringing Tennant and Catherine Tate back was pretty much guaranteed to bring back viewers for the 60th. Which it did.

Second, the Specials allowed RTD to wrap up the Doctor's emotional storyline going forward. The Doctor's character needed a reset. The Specials did that--it left all the emotional baggage of past Doctors behind with Fourteen, so Fifteen begins with a new slate. I wasn't thrilled about Tennant coming back either, but I thought the Specials did an excellent job of passing the baton.

I have nothing against bringing him back, but I did groan at them still KEEPING him to probably pull him out of the hat AGAIN in the future.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally I'd rather watch something trying to tell a good story than appeal to the broadest possible audience. Besides, there are already well-established better ways of bringing back past Doctors in the show, and normal regeneration already works as a reset. It was not necessary or good writing to bring back Tennant in the way RTD did, doesn't mean I wouldn't have been thrilled to have him back (and maybe another Doctor or two!) for the 60th in a different way.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-20 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Assuming that Tennant isn't hanging around during the actual episodes of the actual series - and we have no reason to think that he will be hanging around then - then I don't have any issue with this way of bringing a Doctor back or regenerating a Doctor.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean they're not going to bring back a Doctor from Classic Who in an event of this kind as much as I personally would like them to. And 10 is one of the most popular new Doctors. And Eccleston isn't willing to work with RTD, and Matt Smith seems to have no interest in coming back to the role. And Capaldi wasn't nearly as popular as much as I love him personally.

So, I mean, I get that some people don't like Tennant or the RTD version of the show and I'm sure it's frustrating but I don't think it's really like RTD is doing something wrong here.

Op

I didn't necessarily mind bringing him back. But he should have normally regenerated into the new Doctor. My issue is with his second Doctor getting to stick around.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-20 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I wish Capaldi would come back for a multi-Doctor episode. Twelve’s my favorite Doctor.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-20 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
I would love it if Capaldi came back! 12 was amazing.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-19 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah this is my main complaint too. Honestly feels insulting when it gets to the point of overshadowing Ncuti Gatwa in his first fuckin episode. Like, you wrapped up Ten's story arc perfectly well over a decade ago, give the new guy some space!

(Anonymous) 2023-12-20 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
This is my biggest problem with it.

Like....For the first time after sixty fucking years the Doctor isn't another white guy, and the first thing they do is keep the white one around just in case? It's not exactly saying "This is The Doctor now and racists have to deal with it."

Feels like it's trying to play both sides.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-20 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Gatwa's first episode is his first episode

(Anonymous) 2023-12-20 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
But it wasn't Ncuti's episode. ???? His first episode is going to be Christmas episode.
On the contrary he broke the mold. Usually it's Prev Doctor episode + 2 seconds of New Doctor. 15 had time in the episode and also had enough presence and charisma to overshadow everyone else a bit in an episode with Spice Girls dance number. So it sounds like you problem

I love RTD and I love Ten. I did not want DT to be Fourteen but I thought they did it very well up until that point.
I’ve been hearing rumours for about six weeks that Disney commissioned a spin-off of Fourteen and Donna’s adventures, and the end of the special foreshadowed that.

I disagree with the opinion that it overshadowed Ncuti’s introduction though. All of my Facebook friends were raving about him (and his gorgeous legs lol) and excitedly talking about how much fun he’s going to be as the Doctor. These are general audience members in the U.K. who like the show but will go long stretches of not watching if they think the storytelling is bad. And they’ll clear their diaries to watch live when they think the storytelling is good. They’re exactly the audience BBC was desperate to regain and it’s working.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-20 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Basically same.
Also Ncuti had enough time to shine and pick interest. It's not usual "oh it's this person we will see about them in a next month". We already have seen parts of his personality and it is so interesting to see
