I think that people tend to be comfortable with the familiar... but having that repetition is what made me lose interest. Not that ideas should never be repeated or preserved, I just think there should be a balance between the familiar and the new. I lost interest after TFA so I can't tell if that balance was ever achieved. Judging by the mixed reviews of the remainder of the sequels, I'm going to guess it wasn't.

I have enjoyed all of the Rey star wars movies.

I agree and I'm a SW fan. SW is pretty predictable, good always wins, the characters often have to be retconned in order to be "fleshed out more", it's cutesy and kid-oriented (lol duh), all of that. They're all very similar but nobody wants to hear that because stAr wARs.

Exactly. Star Wars was never meant to be deep, it was meant to be a good versus evil space fantasy and it's good at what it does. Too many people act like it's supposed to be complex and it's just... not.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-28 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt but eh. I don't think it's even good at being compelling good versus evil space fantasy. It's just too much of a hot mess for that.

... Good always wins?

In Star Wars?

Are you thinking about a different Star Wars than I am?

Like not disagreeing about some of the other things you're saying but... Good Always Wins??? We were shown the genocide of the good guys ON SCREEN in Star Wars!

...in the parts of the story that weren't the ending, yeah.

honestly i've never heard anyone say the overall quality was worse...just the specifics. and a lot of people think it's better.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-28 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
I think the main issue wasn't even quality or anything, it was that a lot of fans felt (rightfully) mocked by Johnson for liking the franchise the way it was. Because that's what he did. Intentionally mock a huge part of the fanbase. And shocker, people don't enjoy being mocked by one of the very movies whose franchise they supported for decades.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-28 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
This is why I struggle to name myself a SW fan. IMO Too often fans project really dumb shit onto filmmakers.

If you didn't like The Last Jedi, you didn't like it. You don't need to project this "Rian Johnson was mocking the REAL FANS with the movie he made. Fuck him and we have to ensure this asshole never comes near anything Star Wars related ever again!" to get people to understand that you didn't like The Last Jedi.

Like, it's so exhausting to say you like/dislike a certain SW film and then it's supposed to say/define something about your value as a human being.

FFS they're films. For entertainment. It's not particularly enjoyable to engage with people who have bad faith intentions when they ask you which SW film(s) you liked and why.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-28 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It's what he did though. And I never said anything about "real" fans, just a part of the fan base that liked the franchise the way it was. And Johnson's derision for that part of the fanbase was so painfully obvious in several interviews and commentaries of his so it's not like this is a big silly conspiracy theory.

Your opinion is not fact.
