To be honest, since its Doctor Who, they could just bring David Tennant back at any time for any old BS sci-fic timey-whimey reason if they wanted to with or without that plot. Just look at all the ways they've brought back the Master out of no where.

Then again, I enjoyed the episode. Also I think Ncuti Gatwa is going to do just fine without David Tennant being a threat to his role. The bare minimum is for the scripts not to be as dogshit as Chibnall's era and Gatwa could potentially have a good start to the series.
