Lol I had a friend who was a fan of Twilight. And she ended marrying "cool such a dreamy guy who is a reeeeal guy". Who also was ultra-religious ex-convict. Some people are just that stupid.

But this aside you mix absolutely different things and critic. Some critic is misogyny and some sees greater trends. Some people criticized Twilight because it's a "girl thing". And some because they are bad fucking racist Mormon shit

And you think she wouldn't have married that guy if only she hadn't read Twilight? Seems like a huge reach.

I am not saying this. Of course not. But I think that some unironic uncritical enjoying of media can be seen as a red flag if it's not isolated thing.
But also media does influence us. It's not straightforward 1 to 1, but every thing influence us in different ways. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it is neutral.

nayrt but agreed, media can influence us, especially young developing minds.

I'm so glad I watched a LOT of different things growing up, even if some of it was problematic (though not seen as such then). I like that I can enjoy different things in media, even if I don't particularly enjoy seeing them in real life. I recognize it's fiction, and I can choose whether or not some message sticks with me.

So you were saying that, but with extra steps.

Uncritical consumption of anything is bad, not just Twilight. The problem wasn't Twilight, it was your friend's approach to media.

Nah, Twilight didn't help
