I am so sick and tired of fanartists who draw characters who are officially canonically non-white as having a darker skintone than they actually do in canon.

It's like people think you don't count as a POC unless your skin is a certain shade of brown. I hate how they can't see how racist that is and tbh it makes me extremely uncomfortable in a lot of fandoms.

Signed, a light-skinned POC

I don't blame the artists, I blame the fandom police who created a hostile environment where you could be doxxed for drawing a character with a skintone that could be perceived as the slightest shade lighter than it is canonically. It happened even when the artist had given them the exact canon shade using a color palette. Sometimes differences in computer screen lighting were to blame for some people seeing it as lighter. In any case, as a result, artists have no choice but to overcompensate to make sure that doesn't happen to them.

DA

Nah, I also blame the artists. there really are a lot of them who don't feel "forced" by the fandom police but think they are the ones drawing the characters the "correct" way and everyone else it whitewashing them, no matter how light-skinned the canon version is.
