Backlash, I assume? There was this whole thing where anime fans insisted particular tropes should have Japanese names and objected to attempts to rename them in English. (E.g. True Companions was called Nakama for a long time.)

Other way around. The preexisting troper community, which included anime fans, chose those names collectively. Then the hateboner crowd bounced in and started demanding they be changed because anime was cringe.

They also got a bunch of tropes that were named using British words or terms changed too, for similar reasons.

I wouldn’t say Japanese on an English-language wiki is cringe. Rather, Japanese on an English-language wiki is not English. Hence the attempts to have English-language names.
