(Anonymous) 2024-01-01 12:17 am (UTC)(link)But the impact of the episode is only being oversold now in hindsight, with 20 years of people saying it's the saddest episode ever. When it first aired, it came out of nowhere and gutpunched us all so yeah, it was SAD. We remember the sad vividly. And then we spent 20 years telling the internet how sad it was, repeatedly allowing Buzzfeed to repost our top 10 saddest moments ever. The impact has been drastically lessened by all of that constant oversharing commentary, so I'm honestly not shocked that it doesn't hit people like it used to. They're desensitized or steeled against feeling as deeply by all the people telling them they have to feel something, and here we are.

There is no point us recommending a newfie when all you can accommodate is a tibetan spaniel.
