I volunteer at the library and have two cards for different libraries to borrow from.

What do you do as a volunteer? I've thought about asking about volunteer opportunities at my library but my anxiety has gotten the best of me so far.

Pretty much a lot of things that a librarian would do: shelving books, scanning books in & out for people to borrow or to send to other libraries within the borough, searching for requested books and helping people who use different services at the library (like help with the public computers).

I can't speak for all volunteer libraries, but at my one they take into account volunteer's preferences - like if you don't feel comfortable with being at the front desk you can just focus on the shelving/retrieving books.

I work in a library now, but volunteered at one in high school, and unlike other anon our library system only really lets volunteers hunt for requested books, and working with kids requires almost the same background check that employees get, fingerprinting and all.
