Yeah, probably. I think TOS Kirk wants so badly to believe the best of everyone. He doesn't believe in the no-win scenario. He has a lot of love and trust to give, and he's going to give that love and trust to people who deserve it (his crew) and to people who don't deserve it alike.

His very first episode started the trend of him having a douchebag friend, Mitchell, whom he gave too much leeway to, and it was all downhill from there. Explains why he hangs out with Bones, I guess, Spock not so much.

He thought Khan was a stand up guy who deserved a chance to build an empire on his own private planet, that didn't work so good though. Next movie he just kicked the bad guy in the face instead.

Yeah, the apology thing is just...not good. Bucky obviously feels bad about what he did and is trying to make what amends he can, but that's in character and reasonable, not because he deliberately did bad things.

Not sure where you're getting Sam being "cruel" to Bucky or being oblivious to his PTSD, though - they teased each other and got along pretty well, and the two of them were grieving Steve together. And then they fixed a boat together.

Regrettably, Sebastian Stan is an extremely limited, extremely wooden actor, when not playing teary-eyed gay boys, and casting him as Bucky clearly influenced the long-term direction of his character's path to abandoned storylines and contrived conflict.
