"Neurospicy" is meant to mean, like, "mentally ill but I'm not saying that as an insult". I don't think it has anything to do with "delulu".

Ideally the phrase "mentally ill" would serve that function, but if you've spent any time online you may have noticed that it very doesn't. I rewrote this comment like five times and I'm still not convinced I made it clear enough that I'm not slagging off people who use "neurospicy".

Strangely, I've seen neurospicy used more to describe those that are neurodivergent (autistic, ADHD, sensory processing disorders, etc.). That angle is also used by those in the field when asked, as seen here: https://www.cnld.org/what-does-neurodivergent-mean/#:~:text=You%20may%20have%20heard%20people,operate%20in%20the%20traditional%20manner.

Yeah from what I've seen, "neurospicy" is synonymous with "neurodivergent". I don't know why people came up with it though.

Tiktok shadow-bans specific words, and I believe "neurospicy" was a way of getting around the shadow bans.

It's supposed to invoke the idea of bland (neurotypical) vs spicy (neurodivergent). Not necessarily mentally ill, but it does include all mental illnesses.

I get it, but I would not describe my brain issues as "spicy". More like sludgy, honestly.

Yes, this^. My mental issues feel like they weight as much as a stubborn donkey, refusing to move forward. Every day is a slog.

Yeah, same. So much of my recent mental health issues have been fatique, brain fog, blurry memory issues. A lot of it is definitely more dull than spicy. And even in the not-so-distant past a few years ago when I had decently good mental health while autistic (unlike now when it's bad mental health), it was because back then I was in a position to be able to live a "soft" enough life to match my needs.

Hm I don't like the idea of neurotypical being bland. It makes me think of people who look down on medication and treatment because it will make you boring and kill you creativity.
