(Anonymous) 2024-01-06 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine is Sonic burgers. They are so messy but I love one every now and again.

Japanese Kit Kats. I'm supposed to hate Kit Kats because I think Nestlé is in charge of them now, but goddamn the flavors are soooooo good forgive me

Dominos pizza. They're trash, but sometimes I just crave a trash pizza.

Lol, Dominos is the best pizza in my area since we don't have a local place.

Yup, sometimes the trash pizza just hits the spot. I'm sad that Pizza Hut has more or less become the same (compared to 20-30 years ago and beyond) but I will hit either them or Dominos when I've got that craving.

Crisps. In all sorts of flavours and variations. Rarely indulge though. But I love them. Same with fries, with lots of salt, no sauce.

I love potato chips on my turkey sandwiches. Like...such a trash way to eat a sandwich but I love it. The crunch!

DA but as a kid I used to shove chips in my pb&j sandwiches. I loved that extra salty crunch factor!

That is one single dish. And Scotland also dips haggis in batter and deep fries that too.

Chocolate chip cookies! I got an extreme food allergy from a tick bite that means I can’t eat almost anything anymore. Last month I splurged on certified vegan chocolate chips (they’re allergy safe for me) and made the most amazing cookies all for myself! I had to make my own brown sugar and trade the butter for Crisco so I was really nervous it would be an expensive fail, but they’re the best cookies I’ve ever made. And I make really good cookies lol I make cookies all the time for family, friends, and neighbors so it was extra nice to make something for me for once.

Puppy Chow. It has like 9000 calories per handful, but it's so good.

...I'm assuming this is not literal dog food?

Re: What's your favorite "guilty pleasure" food?

Also called Muddy Buddies. It's chex covered with a melted chocolate-peanut butter mix and then tossed in powdered sugar. It looks like dog food, hence Puppy Chow.

I once brought some to work when I made a batch and, even though I was upfront about what was in them (peanut allergies, etc), I had a coworker who refused to try one because he thought it was actual dog food. Even after everyone else, including me, had some and told him it was chocolate.

DA
I always wondered why some people call it that! It doesn’t look anything like dog food to me but I’ve only ever seen it with the powdered sugar coating. We called it chocolate Chex mix when I was a kid lol I never heard the the name muddy buddies until like the last 10-15 years but it’s what most people seem to call it now. I like puppy chow better <3

AYRT

I didn't hear it called Muddy Buddies until I moved to the PNW. In the south it was always Puppy Chow. I only bought it from a store once, when my boss told me that it was commercially sold. It had never occurred to me that it would be, and I was curious how it would taste! Once was enough. Homemade is soooo much better (and it looks a lot like dog food before the powdered sugar).

From what I understand, the name is from around the 60s or so, when some dog food looked like this:

Mostly chocolate and deserts. I have a massive sugar weakness.

I mean I do not feel guilty about food but a family friend makes this incredible chocolate cake. Ideal texture, light and just moist enough, and then the chocolate buttercream... and then? Then the toffee bits, packed into the buttercream, coming partway up the outside. It sits just long enough for the toffee and buttercream to marry into something beautiful and fudgy, before coming out to be served.

One slice is not enough for the mouth, but two slices is too much for the stomach. It is beautiful.

I don't feel guilt about eating food unless I count the way it gets produced- treating farm and factory workers badly, battery animal farming, shit like that. I haven't eaten meat for decades, but I don't have the time or money to vet everything else I eat. Wouldn't eat at Chick Fil'A even if I ate meat though.

I avoid foods the growers or factory workers actually ask consumers to boycott, though, if I hear about anything. Was sad to lose Annie's mac and cheese and frozen meals for union-busting bullshit.

I guess hot cheetos, takis, and fruit punch gatorade come closest on the "no redeeming nutritional value beyond calories" industrially produced garbage for me. I keep an emergency bottle of gatorade or two around for post-food poisoning or other pukey misery rehydration, and try not to buy crunchy hot cheetos or takis because I can make a family sized bag disappear in hours.

I am not Catholic to feel guilt about random shit.

I have fan with random cravings though. For example in spring I often crave kimchi like mad. Also I do love good crunchy food
