Its probably weird to say it since its from a Care Bears movie, but I still love the book villain 'The Evil Spirit'. I thought she was a fun creepy as a kid; even now I like her design and character.

Also X-Men's Mystique (although her best outfit was in X-Men Evolution series 2).

Always and forever Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent, though I'm rather indifferent to her live-action.

Had a bit of a soft spot for Gossamer - the orange, hairy monster from Warner Bros. Bugs Bunny films (Hair-Raising Hare, etc.)

any fandom or any topic or any trope you like?

I quite like L.M. Montgomery's The Blue Castle. Even if you didn't care for her other, more well known work, this one is a bit different. The main character has a delightful character growth arc and finds her happiness and it's a joy to read about.

Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree. It’s a cozy fantasy coffee shop book (and series) with some wonderful characters and low stakes. I did a mix of reading and listening to it (the author narrates it himself and he’s really good! He does a lot of narration for other fantasy writers, too) and after the first time I finished, I struggled to get into anything else so read the series over again.

Mister God This Is Anna by Finn - it's heartwarming mostly but it does have a bit of sad, too. It's one of the few books I've ever re-read. My other big re-read is Imajica by Clive Barker but that's not really comforting just excellent story weaving. Hope you find the read that hits just the right spot, for you, nonny. :)

A comfort read is such a personal thing. We all come to them through such different routes, and they mean such different things I always think. Mine is Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett though. It is one of his shorter, less complex, tales that I can easily shoot through in an hour or so, but it is linked to a time in my life so much was going wrong and that the book was the only escape from all that. I'll always go back to that whenever I get stressed. Thank you, Pterry.

Cruises PT 2: Different Anon

(Anonymous) 2024-01-09 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks to yesterday’s thread in GC, we’ve just made plans to take an Alaskan cruise for my 50th birthday. I’m going to spend 2-3 weeks backpacking the northernmost section of the PCT and then get a shuttle to Vancouver to meet up with my spouse. We’re doing a 14 day cruise and disembarking in Anchorage where we’ll spend 2 full days before heading home together.

Thank you OP and everyone who chimed in on that thread! We’ve been trying to think of what to do for my 50th ever since my 40th got spoiled. This is going to be the most amazing adventure of my life yet!!

My 40th plans got spoiled too. I was supposed to take a fun European adventure, but then COVID happened and everything was cancelled.

I'm super pumped about your 50th plans though - that trip sounds amazing and something I would definitely have a blast doing. Good for you for jumping on it!
