Most of Beyonce's solo work is unlistenable to me.

Her voice sounds pretty, but her constant vocal runs feel more like she's showing off what she can do with her voice rather than expressing whatever feeling the song she's singing is supposed to express.

For example, I call "Love on Top" "Key Change, Louder" because that's what she does at the end of the song (for what feels like an eternity to me), as if singing louder equals more emotion. I almost like the song up to that point, but then she ruins it with that nonsense.

I don't feel like she's singing about someone she loves (presumably Jay-Z), she's just showboating.

Also, "Single Ladies" is torture for me to listen to.

Interesting comment and makes me think of Dreamgirls. Her character was portrayed the way you describe, or at least was thought of as a singer who did impressive vocal gymnastics but lacked soul and feeling.
