I would say if they're still actively profiting off the bad things their ancestors did (which is what it sounds like in this case) then yes, they're just as bad.

No. In this case, her husband's family is rich because they own huge amounts of land, most of which was basically stolen from a native tribe. They're currently making money off that stolen land.
