Secret OP

I have fairly recent trauma that meets the old definition (think witnessing multiple acts of violence and having no place to escape to; 2020 was a bear for me). I though Bonanno had some good points, such as people wanting to share their traumas and that there is a spectrum of how people experience potentially traumatizing events. Those acts of violence I mentioned earlier? My husband was also a witness, but we have different experiences and reactions to them. This track record is why I can go along with Bonanno's idea of a spectrum of trauma. I also think Bonanno may have a point about the use of the word trauma being a bit overused when it comes to the pandemic. I admit I still get salty when I hear people say the pandemic traumatized them even though they did not have experience with someone dying from or being hospitalized from COVID. That has made it very difficult for me to cone forward and talk about my experiences in 2020.

That said, I think Bonanno is overestimating human resilience. I also think that (like van Der Kolk, ironically) his studies are not adequately looking into the neurodiverse experience. Bonanno has even less of an excuse than van Der Kolk, though, since there is a larger potential body of neurodiverse people that can be studied for things like this.
