This idea makes me mad, although I think part of that is tied to my feelings around Autistic Instagram (where I see similar attitudes). I have toiled for years to ensure I stay gainfully employed and able to live independently; I've been more successful at this than some of my cousins and peers. This is not pretend for me, and saying otherwise makes me feel like I'm getting lumped into a stereotype that is the polar opposite of my experience.
