"As a queer fan of the band since their original run, I'm getting so so tired of young queer fans gatekeeping and acting proprietary over their music. I keep seeing statements like "only queer fans can truly understand MCR" and "[Song] absolutely IS about [Insert lgbt experience here] and if you can't see it that you don't actually get the song". I was a queer MCR fan before some of ya'll were born. Are there themes like that in their songs? Yes. Is that literally all, or even the majority, of their music? No. That's you trying so hard to be the Only True Fans that your head-canons has overtaken your ability to think."

Huh, I’ve been in the MCRmy for years and I’ve never encountered these particular fans. I have encountered other gatekeepers though. It always makes me giggle when baby fans try to say that MCR fandom should be a safe space for minors and no one over the age of eighteen should engage with the fandom at all. On the other hand, I get irritated by the older fans trying to gatekeep ‘cause they should know better, especially if they were young during the years when liking MCR was a one way ticket to getting stuffed in a locker.

Ahhhh, the young 'uns. I wasn't in bandom back in the day, but I've heard stories of the drama. Glad the next generation is finding something new to be melodramatic and silly about.
