True! Either way, death is a strange thing to taste in maple syrup, since it's more accurately a sign of life.

Unless the character also tastes death in the blood of humans/fairies, as a premonition?

It’s a memory thing, not prophetic, so if they taste death in blood it means the bleeder died.
