It can be done in any way the human imagination can create - for example, in the yaoi Love Pistols a guy consumes a parasite to create an artificial womb. I can't remember how the birthing worked because its been a decade since I last read it, but I think it was just done through an operation when the time came.

Actually, I think that's the same for the movie Junior where Arnold Schwarzenegger's character is carrying a baby and has to have an operation to 'birth' the baby.
