i do NOT understand the hype for this book. i finally got a hold of it and read it last year and was like "this is what people were obsessed with?"
i feel like no single character has any sort of personality in the whole freaking book.

I think as an Iliad retelling it's atrocious. As a book itself I liked it... fine? I didn't hate it at all, but also didn't adore it as much as many other people.
Tho I do like how it ended because I'm just a big sap ok.

This is one of those “the writing is fine, but the story just isn’t that good” books for me. Personally, when you’re writing a story like this where most of the people reading are going to know the bare bones of the plot, the characterization has got to be extra compelling to make the story worth reading. And in this case, it just isn’t. Patroclus is just your average fanfic softboi with added foot fetish. Achilles is a dumb jock. Everyone else is just background noise. It wasn’t awful and it was an easy read. I’m just not sure who the book was for and I can’t imagine recommending it to anyone.

If I'd seen the comic before watching the movie, I might have also mourned the loss of the long hair. But either way I don't think the movie design is bad by itself, let alone "atrocious."

I still haven't seen the movie because I heard that the story is a lot different from the graphic novel...
Still happy for the movie for being a success, just don't know if I'll be seeing it any time soon.

I saw the movie before I knew about it being a webcomic so I liked his design just fine, though him having long hair would have been cool too but I imagine that's such a pain in the ass for animators. Just from what I know about the Tangled bts the animators were pulling their own hair out just trying to deal with animating her super-long hair, so I can understand the compromise.

I had so many mixed emotions about the end of this book. Like you, I desperately wanted to know about what happened on Earth. When I first finished it I was immediately angry, but after sitting with it for awhile the ending has grown on me. I kind of like that they didn't take the expected happy ending. And really they set it up pretty well that Grace didn't have anything on Earth to go back to, but he had everything on Erid.

It was definitely an interesting reading(listening, as I did the audiobook) experience that left me pondering it far longer than I have most other books I've read.

Eh, tbf raising kids unfortunately can become your entire personality for a few years.

And everyone saw it coming with Ruby. People like me who would never in a million years watch that kind of content saw clips going around years ago that highlighted her abuse. The only thing that’s really off about this case is that none of the reports over the years led to anything.
