Texas is one of the states that would actually be significantly less right-leaning were it not for intense voter suppression and gerrymandering. In fact I think it's the single state that's most true of.

Yup. Most of the major cities are fairly liberal, outside of Houston.

Yeah. It'd still be right-leaning because the panhandle and East Texas are real conservative, and the suburbs around the big cities have historically been very conservative although that's becoming less and less true. But it'd be competitive, not deep red.
