TBBT and Friends are very different shows and it's perfectly plausible to find one funny and not the other for reasons that have nothing to do with nostalgia goggles. It's even possible for people to think that one is a good sitcom and the other is a bad sitcom especially if you're the kind of TV nerd who has opinions on what makes a sitcom good that go beyond you personally finding it funny.

Personally I do think that Friends was better than TBBT. At least early Friends - later Friends got really bad.

Not to mention 'early Friends' is a good 15 years older than 'early BBT'. "A product of its time" means a very different thing for the mid-1990s vs. the mid-2010s.
